THE WAY OF LIFE PROVIDED BY THE LORD IS TO BE
PERFECT AND UPRIGHT
perfect and upright
- The possibility of being perfect (mature in attitude) and upright living
(living out the actions we know are godly), is only possible due to the perfect
work of Christ in our lives, and the continuous action of the Holy Spirit
through the Word of God. DEM

and eschewed evil. -
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as
brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for
railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that
ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let
him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him
eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. I Pet. 3:9-11
Eschewed evil: to go out
of the way to avoid that which is wicked. Never to participate in any area of
evil, which would destroy your testimony or life. Flee from evil. “All within
was holy, all without was righteous; and his whole life was employed in
departing from evil, and drawing nigh to God.” Adam Clarke
In order to avoid evil, we must know what is evil? For us to understand what is
evil, we must have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling our lives, a good working
knowledge of the Word of God, and a sensitive spiritual attitude toward
following God.
What is Evil? - Beginning in Genesis we have an initial understanding of evil
Gen. 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not
eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Gen. 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall
be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Gen. 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know
good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of
life, and eat, and live for ever:
Gen. 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that
every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
By reading these passages, and many more, we can define evil as the opposite of
that which is good. We can surmise the following characteristics of evil:
*That Man Has No Control over His Evil Thoughts and Intents (depravity in
action)
*That Man Can Never Control That Evil Thinking Produced in His Mind (bringing
carnality)
*That God Knowing Good and Evil Is Does Not Cause Him to Sin (bringing death)
*That Man Knowing Good and Evil Causes Him to Chose Sin (in his natural fleshly
state)
The book of Job records several passages using the word
“evil.”
