Jude 1:24 To Him That Is Able
Introduction: Now unto him that is able - Certainly God is able to execute His
will and purpose on the earth and in the universe. He is the Creator God, the
Sustainer of life, the Director of the universe, the Fulfiller of His will. He
is self-sustaining and infinite in His glory.
His plan is His decree of justice and love, balanced by His own hand. God is
able! He is able to speak the universe into existence by word of His mouth. He
is able to have conceived a perfect and sovereign plan of creation and absolute
redemption, and then implement that plan with certitude and exactness.
God is able! There is no question biblically as to this critical point. Why do
we fret and worry over the issues of life, when the Lord God Creator of life is
in control of His infinite plan for His creation and His own children. His free
redemption for mankind was executed with exacting precision.
His purposeful plan of hope is further seen in His great character, revealing
the eternal joy for believers and the fulfillment of all His promises. He not
only redeems us by promise, but also preserves us by His power. He alone is able
to keep us from falling back into a pit of despair or in the depths of miry
clay. Why bring us out of despair and hopelessness to put us back into the very
character and remorse of our past.
Our redemption is sure and absolute. Therefore our resolve of assurance must to
resolute. God is able! “God is the one person who can give us a foundation for
life which nothing and no one can ever shake.” - William Barclay
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love
him. I Cor. 2:9
He Is the Principle Character Implementing His Power - Now unto him - Tw de -
Emphasis is on the word “Him.”
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious
body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto
himself. Phil 3:21
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the
preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was
kept secret since the world began,
Romans. 16:25
He Is The One Who Perpetuates That Power - ...him that is able - dunamenw -
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or
think, according to the power that worketh in us, Eph. 2:30
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image
of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he
did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also
justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say
to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Rom. 8:29-31
He Is The One Who Sustains of Our Eternal Life - to keep you - fulaxai -
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works,
yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present
you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Col. 1:21-22
He Is The One Who Upholds Us By His Power - from falling - aptaistouV (1X in the
N.T.)
It is used of a horse which does not stumble and of a man who does not fall into
error. The Scottish Bible version says, "Thy foot he'll not let slide."
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help
cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot
to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth
Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy
shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by
night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth,
and even for evermore. Psalm 121:1-8
He Is The One Who Presents Us To The Father - and to present - sthsai -
Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the
preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was
delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every
evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for
ever and ever. Amen. 2 Tim. 4:17-18
Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus,
and shall present us with you. 2 Cor. 4:14
He Is The One Who Cleansed His People - you faultless - amwmouV - He has the
power to make us stand blameless in the presence of his glory. This word is
characteristically used to describe sacrifices. It is used of an animal which is
without spot or blemish, and is therefore fit to be offered to God. The
application is that when we submit ourselves to God, his grace can make our
lives nothing less than a sacrifice fit for the Master Creator.
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works,
yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present
you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Colossians 1:21-22
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or
wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Eph.
5:26-27
He Is The One Who Receives Glory in Eternity - before the presence of his glory
- katevmpion - “Nothing can stand in His presence that does resemble Him” The
glory of His train that filled the temple with glory, will be fully revealed
again in the presence of the Father in Heaven.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him
in glory. Col. 3:4
“Surely the natural way to think of entry into the presence of God is in fear
and in shame. But by the work of Jesus Christ and in the grace of God, we know
that we can go to God with joy and with all fear banished. Through Jesus Christ,
God the stern Judge has become known to us as God the loving Father.” - William
Barclay
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that
sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he
hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last
day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the
Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at
the last day. John 6:38-40
He Is The One Who Is Rejoices With Us At Our Redemption - with exceeding joy -
agalliasei - Then shall our hearts know a joy beyond what earth can afford; then
shall God also rejoice over us, and the joy of our compassionate Saviour be
completed. - Matthew Henry
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet
believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the
end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. I Peter 1:7-8
