Let It Sink In - Luke 9:37-44
Introduction: Read the account from 9:37-33.
I. THE POWER OF GOD LEAVES US WONDERING - 9:43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
They were all amazed at the mighty power of God, which they had seen in the miracles Christ.
Power Over The Satan and His Angels: Luke 4:36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
Power Over All Life: Luke 5:9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
Power Over His Creation: Luke 8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
II. THE WORDS OF CHRIST MUST PENETRATE THE HEART OF MAN - 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: Let these sayings - Probably refers to those things which Jesus had taught up to that point, the sayings of the people which saw the miracles, and the statement that He would be delivered into the hands of men. While they all wondered at all things which Jesus did, he said this to his disciples.
They had a predilection his temporal kingdom, that they would reign with Him,. Now they thought that this mighty power of his would easily effect the coming of His kingdom, and that the miracles would contribute to it.
Jesus knew what was in their hearts. He had told them before, that he was so far from having men delivered into his hands and that he must be delivered into the hands of men. He must die in disgrace, but human honor; and all his miracles.
"Let these sayings sink down into your ears" - take special notice, and don’t allow the ideas of a temporal kingdom stop you from listening.
The word of Christ does us no good, unless we let it sink down into our heads and hearts.
They Remembered at The Resurrection: Luke 24:6-9 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
John 2:19-22 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
No Man Could Prevent The Death of Christ: John 19:10-11 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Acts 2:23-25 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
The Following Generations Must Listen To The Words of Christ: Hebrews 2:1-3 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
