The Sinner Who Sees the Compassion of Christ Will Want to Listen - 15:1
Publicans - Employed as collectors of the Roman government. They brought false
charges of smuggling in the hope of extorting hush-money; the publicans in the
New Testament were regarded as traitors and apostates, defiled by their
relationship with the heathen.
sinners - amartwloV- one who sins greatly, affecting
the lives of others.
Sin carries heavy burdens and they knew it
Sin brings public humiliation and they knew it
Sin causes bitterness in the lives of those it affects
Knowing your need and continuing to sin, is living a lie.
The Religious World Talks a Good Talk, but Does Not Really Care - 15:2
The Pharisees and Scribes had the same sin problem that Pubilcans and sinners
had
The Pharisees and Scribes could see the sin of others, but could not see their
own sin
Sinners murmur among themselves, having no solution to the problem
The Pharisees and Scribes judged the One person who could change their lives
The Lord Cares about Every Individual Person - 15:3-4
Jesus knew their hearts and actions
Jesus knew how they would reason
Jesus knew that they would reason incorrectly
Jesus knew they would go out of their way for personal gain
The Lord Searches for Each Soul - 15:5-6
Compassionate men search the sinner who is lost - when he hath found it
Compassionate men take personal responsibility for the lost - he layeth it
Compassionate men will carry the burden of the one they love - on his shoulders
Compassionate men rejoice when someone is saved - rejoicing, calleth friends and
neighbors...
Heaven Rejoices, along with Jesus When Some Believes 15:7
The Lord God rejoices
Jesus rejoices
The angels rejoice
The multitude rejoices
When Someone We Know Is Not Saved, Search Them out Diligently - 15:8-9
The treasure was valuable, but incomplete with the rest of the set - lose one
piece
Diligence is required to find the sinner who needs Christ - doth not light a
candle, sweep
Persevere in the search for the lost sinner - seek diligently till she find it?
Rejoice and testify that the sinner (coin) was found (its important to her)
Those in heaven rejoice in the presence of God - 15:10
