Luke 20:9-19; I Cor. 10:4 Jesus, The Cornerstone

20:17-18 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

I Cor. 10:1-2 Figuratively baptized - through the sea and under the cloud - Protection & direction

I Cor. 10:3-4 That Rock was Christ

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deut. 32:1-4

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. 1 Sam 2:1-2

And David ...And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. 2 Sam 22:1-3

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
Psalms 18:30-32

...They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. Psalms 92:12-15

The New Testament Jews failed to recognize Jesus as that Rock. He is Jehovah God, manifested in the flesh. The Jews of the Old Testament had the Rock, Jesus, leading then through the wilderness! He was ever present with His people! In the N.T. Jesus revealed Himself as the Rock!

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 1 Cor 10:1-4

"Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"

Peter taught this great truth: "...behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. " I Pet. 2:6

10:5-6 Think of the Jews he O.T./ They turned down the beauty and protection of God for the lust of the flesh: pleasures of Egypt (leaks, onions). They desired the finery of Egypt and turned from the Promised land They wanted the safety of Egypt, but they wandered in the desert for 40 years and died.

Why didn't they ever learn the lesson?

FOLLOW THE LORD at all costs! The stakes are high! God wants us under His cloud of protection, and the hand of His direction! God, through the sea of trust - sea the salvation of the lord! Prove His power by being under the cloud!
