Who Then Can Be Saved - Luke 18:18-26

Luke 18:15-17 is the context of Jesus’ remarks to the disciples.

The Rich Ruler Was Interested in His Eternal Destiny 18:18 ...Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Mark 10:17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

Jesus Made A Comparison of God and Man - 18:19 ...Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

The Ruler Knew The Commandments - 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments...

Jesus Directed The Man To A Specific Set of Commandments - 18:20 Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.(Commandments 5-9)

He Was A Good Man, Shown By His Actions - 18:21 ...All these have I kept from my youth up.

Matthew 19:20-21 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Jesus Knew What the Man Was Going to Say next - 18:22 ...when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him,

The Outward Action of the Commandment Is Different than the Application of the Commandment  18:22 ..Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

His Evaluation Contrasted with Jesus’ Evaluation - 18:23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful:   Cf. Mark 10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

Wealth should not be the basis for life decisions and eternity - 18:24 ...for he was very rich.

Wealth Affects Decisions Regarding Life - 18:24-25...How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

The Logical Question Must Be Asked - 18:26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
