Chapter Six

6:1-17    The Four Horsemen - From chapter 6 forward we have a vivid description of the last 3 ½ years of the tribulation, or judgment period (6:1 - 19:4).  Cf. Dan. 12:1; Jer. 30:7; Joel 2:1-3

6:1 thunder”/ the beginning of a storm

6:2 “white horse”/ First Seal: Conquering and to conquer

6:4 “red horse”/ Second Seal: Communism?

6:5-6   “black horse”/ Third Seal: Balances in his hand / famine

6:7-8 “pale horse”/ Fourth Seal: Death sat on him and hell followed / kill, hunger, etc. / the greatest destruction that the world has ever known: Quarter of the earth = all of Europe and South America combined.

6:9 “Fifth Seal”/ non-descriptive, but it was horrible because the martyrs cried aloud, begging God to hold back His judgment.

“souls that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held”

6:10-11   Who were these martyrs?  Those killed during the first 3 ½ years of the tribulation?  All believers raptured before the tribulation?

6:12-17"sixth Seal”/ all levels of society affected by earthquakes, sun becoming black, moon as blood, stars falling to the earth, heaven departed as a scroll, and mountains and islands moved from their places.
