Romans 5:1 Access By Faith
"In Romans 3:21-26, we found that God gives righteousness through faith to all who believe; and that He gave Christ to die in order to make this gift of righteousness consistent with His own righteousness. In Romans 3:27; 4:25, we found that justification through faith is in harmony with God’s treatment of Abraham. In Romans 5:1, Paul will assume that justification is through faith and through Christ, and will then go on to develop logically the results of these doctrines. We shall find (in Romans 5:1, 2) that they give us peace with God and a joyful hope of glory; a hope (Romans 5:3, 4)." Beet

past completed action, but a continued activity by God! It is irreversible!!
That his readers are justified, is taught in 1 Corinthians 6:11; Titus 3:7; and that by faith they are already in the way of salvation, which is the same doctrine in another form, is stated in other epistles bearing the name of Paul. By an important coincidence, the same doctrine in the same phrase is in Acts 13:39 attributed to Paul in a recorded address; as is similar teaching in Romans 16:31; 26:18. All this taken together is decisive documentary evidence that as matter of historic fact Paul taught, in language equivalent to that used in Romans 1:17; 3:21, 22, that God accepts as righteous, in spite of their past sins, all who believe the Gospel. This teaching, which we may conveniently speak of as justification through faith, is the FIRST and chief fundamental doctrine of the Epistle to the Romans and of the theology of Paul.
We now ask, How did Paul come to this claim? An answer is suggested by the fact that although the phrase justified through faith is found only
with Paul, the equivalent doctrine that all who believe the Gospel are in the way of salvation is found in other N.T. documents altogether different in thought and phrase from the epistles of Paul.
In the Fourth Gospel Christ is said to have frequently taught that all who believe in Him will have and already have eternal life: Romans 3:15; 5:24; 6:29, 35,40,47.
If so, they already possess by faith the favor of God. Similar teaching, in Mark 1:15; 16:16; Luke 8:12; 18:14. And in Matthew 8:10; 9:22, 29; 15:28; 17:20; 21:21 we have, attributed to Christ, teaching wonderfully in harmony with the same. So also James 2:1, 14-26; 5:15; 1 Peter 2:6, 7; 1 John 5:1-13.

continuous present benefit from God / reconciliation: 2 Cor. 5:17-21 / "with" is proV
Peace: "Before, while sinners, we were in a state of enmity with God, which was sufficiently proved by our rebellion against his authority, and our transgression of his laws; but now, being reconciled, we have peace with God. Before, while under a sense of the guilt of sin, we had nothing but terror and dismay in our own consciences; now, having our sin forgiven, we have peace in our hearts, feeling that all our guilt is taken away. Peace is generally the first-fruits of our justification." Clark
"This shows that all men, till they are justified, are at war with God. But when they are justified by faith, the wrath of God, which abideth on those who believe not on His Son, John 3:36, is turned away, and they cease to be enemies to God. Thus peace, succeeding hostility, brings with it every blessing; for there is no middle place for the creature between the love and the wrath of God.
This peace, then, arises from righteousness, - the imputation of the righteousness of God by which the believer is justified, and is followed
by a sense of great peace. So long as men look upon their sins as unpardoned, and on God as the avenger of their transgressions, they must
regard Him as being to them a consuming fire. But when they view God in
Christ reconciling them to Himself, not imputing their iniquities to them,
peace, according to the measure of faith, is established in the conscience.
This never can be experienced by going about to establish our own righteousness. If any man have peace in his conscience, it must flow from
Christ’s righteousness. Resting on this righteousness, the believer beholds God at peace with him, perfectly reconciled." Haldane
"Through this sense of the pardon of sin, and of friendship with God, the
peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keeps his heart and mind
through Christ Jesus. The maintenance of this peace, by preserving the
conscience free from guilt by continual application to the blood of Christ,
is the main point in the believer’s walk with God and the powerful spring
of His obedience. The Apostle prays that the Lord Himself may give His people peace by all means, and enjoins that the peace of God should rule in the hearts of believers." Haldane
How would you define peace? / eirhnhn / The word primarily means to bring to peace or reconcile. In Mark 9:50, the Lord desires that the disciples be at peace with one another.
The word occurs in every book of the NT, except 1 John. It describes harmonious relationships between men, between nations, friendliness, order, quietness in the churches, the reconciled relationships between God and man accomplished through the Gospel, Acts 10:36; Eph. 2:17; the sense of rest and contentment.
"The God of peace" is a title used in Rom. 15:33; Rom. 16:20; Phil. 4:9; 1 Thess. 5:23; Heb. 13:20; cp. 1 Cor. 14:33; 2 Cor. 13:11. The corresponding Hebrew word shalom primarily signifies wholeness, uncut, full, finished. In Gen. 26:31 the term "peace_offering" is called the "salvation offering" (Luke 7:50; Luke 8:48). In 2 Thess. 3:16, the title "the Lord of peace" refers to the Lord Jesus.
"Peace"/ is described in the Old Testament and is beautifully seen as a gift, a blessing, or that which emanates from the Lord.
Job 22:21 "Acquaint thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee."
Psalm 29:11 "The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace."
Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 32:17 "And the work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever."
The Lord, being the God of PEACE, desires that His children have peace in their hearts that passes all understanding! We often toss and turn all night, because stress dominates our living, but the David said,
Psalm 4:8 " I will lay me down in peace, and sleep; for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell safely."

5:12-14 For until the law of Moses sin was in the world, but sin was not imputed as a transgression against the law. Adam’s sin was the breaking of a direct command of God and not imputed as sin against the law.
Death was the result of direct disobedience. Even thought sin was not imputed as a result of the law, death still had power over man, even though he had not broken a direct command of God the way Adam did.
Don’t make Adam the hero. He is the one responsible, even though Eve was deceived. Adam broke the covenant of God. Men did die from Adam to Moses, and the cause was the direct disobedience of Adam.
