Abraham and the Resurrection Hebrews 11:17-19
11:17 "By faith Abraham, when he was tried" – peirazomenoV (Pres Pass Ptc) - Put to the test to prove his character and steadfastness (tempt, try, prove, examine). To test for the purpose of ascertaining a person’s quality, or what he thinks, or how he will behave himself.
Prov. 17:3 “The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the Lord trieth the hearts”
offered up Isaac: - prosenhnocen (Pf Act Ind) – action which is viewed as having been completed in the past, once and for all, not needing to be repeated. There was a real offering of Abraham's will, even without the sacrifice of Isaac. Abraham had faith in the resurrection power of God. This is the same verb usage as when Jesus said, “It is finished” (tetelestai) in John 19:30
And he that had received the promises - anadexamenoV (Aor Mid Ptc) -
Offered up – proseferen (Impf Act Ind) – in the past continuously, but not completed.

11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called- klhqhsetai soi sperma (Fut Pass Ind). Literally, to call in a loud or distinct voice.
11:19 Accounting – logisamenoV (Aor Mid Ptc) derived from logizomai meaning to think, impute, reckon, count, or number. It infers computing or calculating or imputing to someone by deliberate choice. This word deals with reality. If I "logizomai" or reckon that my bank book has $1000 in it, it has $1000 in it. Otherwise I am deceiving myself. This word refers to facts not suppositions.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. I John 4:9-10
