Christ’s Priestly Offering - Hebrews 7:26-27
7:26 For such - toioutoV - such an one, kind or sort - distinguished from others in a special and unique way, so that it should be obvious to those who are watching or evaluating.
an high priest - arciereuV - He above all others was honored with this title. The regular high priest would perform the common duties of the priesthood; but his chief duty was, once a year on the day of atonement, to enter into the Holy of Holies (from which the other priests were excluded), and to preside over the Sanhedrin, or Supreme Council.
According to Mosaic law, no one could aspire to the position of high priest unless he were of the tribe of Aaron and descended from a the family of an high priest, and his position was permanent until death.
At the time of Antiochus Epiphanes, and afterward, Herod’s line and the Romans took to themselves the power of appointing the high priests and was transferred from one appointed priest to another according to the will of civic or military rulers.
During the one hundred and seven years intervening between Herod the Great and the destruction of Jerusalem, twenty eight persons held the position of high priest.
But Christ:
Heb 2:17 ...that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Heb 3:1 ... consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Heb 4:14-15 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 5:10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; Heb. 8:1
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:2
who is holy, - osioV - holy (4), Holy One (2) - undefiled by sin, free from wickedness, religiously observing every moral obligation, pure holy, pious. Holiness is not just the absence of sin. It is the sum total of His being and perfection.
Jesus was even spoken of a being a holy
child at His birth. Acts 4:27,30.
Jesus was the only One who was qualified to enter into the holy of holies.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Heb. 9:24
For he hath made him to be
sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in
him.
2 Cor. 5:21
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Isa. 53:9
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. I John 3:5
harmless, - akakoV - without guile or fraud, harmless, free from guilt, fearing no evil from others, distrusting no one.
undefiled, - amiantoV - from ap (as a negative particle) defiled - not defiled or soiled, free from that by which the nature of a thing is deformed and debased, or its force and life force is impaired
separate from sinners, - kecwrismenoV ap twn amartwlwn - Pf Pass Ptc - depart, put asunder, separate, divide, part, to separate one's self from something
Heb 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
and made higher than the heavens; - uyloteroV ginomenoV - Aor Mid Ptc - highly esteemed, exalted on high, metaphorically used as eminent, honored. Made is ginomenoV, be (255). Its meaning is to come into existence, to arise, appear in history, come upon the stage.
7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, - Pres Act Ind -
Heb 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Heb 9:25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

Lev. 9:7 And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded.
Lev. 16:10-11 10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
Heb 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Heb. 5:3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Heb 13:11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
first for his own sins, and then for the people's: - not like the Levitical priests.
for this he did once, - epoihsen - Aor Act Ind - do or did (357), produced, constructed, formed, fashioned, prepared, caused it to be done, carried out, executed, etc. Once is efapax, meaning once for all.
Romans 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Heb 9:25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Heb 9:27-28 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
when he offered up himself. - anenegkaV - Aor Act Ptc - offer up, bear, men to a higher place, to lift up yourself, to place yourself a load to be carried, to sustain someone’s punishment
Heb 8:3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
