The New and Living Way - Hebrews 10:15-20
10:15-17 The Lord God gave testimony, the law testified, the sacrifices spoke to the people regarding their need, the death of Christ was necessitated by their need, man recognized his own need. Now the writer of Hebrews pens, "Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us..."
The Holy Spirit witnessed to the Jewish nation through the prophet Jeremiah. The Holy Spirit told Israel that they would one day experience a real knowledge of the Lord. (10:16-17) are a quotation from Jeremiah 31:32-33.
"Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."
10:16-17 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord,
I will put my laws into their hearts, - no longer just head knowledge, but applied to their lives
and in their minds will I write them; - they will no longer forget the words of the Lord
And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. - they will receive complete forgiveness
10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. - With the remission of their sins being complete, no more offerings for sin would be necessary! The Lord Jesus has now paid the complete price - and no other offering is necessary to receive freedom from sin.
10:19 Having (Pres Act Ptc) therefore, brethren, - continuous privileges to enter into God’s presence for cleansing.
boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, - Because of this perfect atonement, we believers can now enter into His presence W/O concern or fear (boldness). Freedom of expression, carrying the deepest needs of our hearts without hesitancy. Coming consciously into the presence by the blood of Jesus. He opened the curtain into God's presence, opening up a new and better way. Heb.4:16
"And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." Gal 4:6
"In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him." Eph 3:12
"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17
10:20 This new and living way is through the veil (Tabernacle). The veil hid the sinner from the presence of God. it was torn apart from top to bottom at the death of Christ. The Lord removed every barrier for man, so that man could now enter into the presence of God. This is only possible because of the death of Christ, when He entered one time into the Holy Place not made with hands.
"And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom." Mark 15:38
"And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;" Matt 27:51
