Their Care For Him During Personal Afflictions - 10:32

But call to remembrance the former days, Anamimnhsekesqe - Pres Mid Imp - Commanded to think back to when they were saved and received knowledge and truth from God.

in which, after ye were illuminated, - en aiV fwtisqenteV - Aor Pass Ptc - God had shown them the truth. When this truth was being revealed they were being enabled to endure the events which would naturally follow.

ye endured - from upo and menw, meaning to abide patiently, to hold fast during trial and preserve bravely your difficulty.

a great fight - pollhn aqlhsin - contest, combat, striving, struggling in trial.

of afflictions - paqhmatwn - external suffering or misfortune, causing in inward state of affliction or passion.

Their Fellowship with Others Who Were Suffering - 10: 33

Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock - qeatrizomenoi -Pres Pass Ptc - bring upon the stage or set forth as a spectacle.

both by reproaches - sneidismoiV - undeserved reproach or reviling.

and afflictions - te kai qiliyesi - tribulation, anguish, distress, a pressing together.

and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. - koinwnoi - associate, partner or comrade.

1 Cor. 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

1Thess. 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

Their Compassion and Joy at Their Loss and His Gain - 10: 34

For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, - sunepaqhsate - Aor Act Ind - touched with the same feelings as Christ has for the church.

Phil. 1:7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

and took joyfully - umwn meta caraV - Aor Mid Ind - to receive to yourselves, to take something as your own, as a faithful companion would take with a friend. To admit happily the circumstances of life, which would not normally exist.

the spoiling of your goods... - uparcontwn - extortion, plundering, robbery.

Matt. 5:11-12 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

2 Cor. 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Their Need for Encouragement Not to Change For The Rewards Are Great - 10:35

Cast not away therefore your confidence, - mh apobalhte - Aor Act Subj - boldness, openly; freedom in speaking, frankly without concealing. No ambiguity or circumlocution. No statistics or attempts to prove what they know is obvious. Their confidence should be conspicuous.

which hath great recompence of reward. - misqapodosian megalhn - payment of wages that are due.

1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Gal. 6:8-9 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Their Hope in Christ Brings the Fulfillment of the Promise 10:36-37

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, - a conditional promise, which will be fulfilled, but they must wait through all the difficulty to receive the inheritance and eternal benefits.

ye might receive the promise. - komishsqe - Aor Mid Subj - to obtain what has been promised.

For yet a little while, and he that shall come (ercomenoV - Appear - Pres Mid Ptc) Continuously in the mind set and process of preparing for His coming. Only He knows the exact measure of preparation and time necessary for His appearance.

will come (hxei - Pres Act Ind - to come in order to seek intimacy with someone) Meeting those that He loves and anticipates fellowship with. We are to live in the spiritual condition of readiness, because He views His coming as imminent.

and will not tarry (croniei - Fut Act Ind, He will not linger or delay). One never delays their arrival, because it is a prescribed divine and important appointment. He will not tarry so that you can receive the promise.

Heb. 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Heb. 12:1 ¶ Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Ps. 37:7 ¶ Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

James 5:7-8 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
