But We Would See Jesus, Hebrews 2:5-9
2:5 There is no inheritance given to angels because the inheritance rightfully
belongs to the Son of God. However, angels have ministered and will minister the
judgement of God:
Upon man: Gen. 19:3 -Lot at Sodom
Upon Israel: 2 Sam. 24:15-17 - After the numbering
Upon kings: Acts 12:23 - Herod, worms
Tribulation: Rev. 8-9 - 7th seal, 7 angels, bail, fire, etc.
2:6-8 refers to Adam as the son of man in contrast to Jesus as seal in 2:9. This
is a quote from Psalm 86:4-6. "Lower than the angels." why? Why was Adam given
this position to rule and have dominion over the earth?
2:9 now in contrast to this dark picture of the loss of man's true dominion, the
author calls to our attention the Light of the world that pierces the gloom of
the fall of man and the sin which darkens the world.
"But we see Jesus - 13X - (especially stresses the thought of the person who
"sees."). This is the important first mention of Jesus by name in Hebrews. Some
of the Jews had acknowledged Him intellectually, but not a heart acceptance of
His person and work. Now they have drifted away like a ship from the mooring in
the harbor.
Now the writer says that Jehovah and Jesus are One and the same. Jesus is
portrayed as the incarnate God, glorified with power and honor. This is the
glorious light shining in darkness and illuminating the grace of God to man -
the new covenant in Christ & the Gospel
BIBLE WRITTEN SO THAT WE WOULD SEE JESUS
Isa. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of
whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son
of Joseph
Deut. 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of
thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
“who was made a little lower than the angels" - why? For the suffering of
death...
*So He could humble Himself: Phil. 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also
in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be
equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of
a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a
man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the
cross.
*So that He could accept the physical body of a man: I Tim. 3:16 And without
controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on
in the world, received up into glory.
*Restrain Himself from the use of some of His attributes: John 18:5-6 They
answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also,
which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am
he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
* that He could die at Calvary - I come to do thy will 0 God-
Through the Cross Jesus gained all that Adam had lost. The creation now groans,
waiting for the second coming of Christ to make all things right again! The
earth will soon be released from the curse and there will be a new heaven and
earth!

Death has defeated mere man. But death did not defeat Jesus! The writer applies

I John 2:1-2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the

also for the sins of the whole world.
Tit. 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men
2 Cor. 5:14-15 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge,
that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that
they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which
died for them, and rose again.
Rom. 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
